Edits

These are two images i decided to edit after completing my ideas shoot. I think they have work well and are interesting to the viewer. I decided to change the colour of the image to black and white however i left one subject of the image in colour. I think this has a good effect and makes the photo aesthetically pleasing. For my final piece i want to experiment with colour, showing this memory i have is a good memory.

Hanging up old memories

My first idea for the future memories brief was 'hanging up old memories.' I initially wanted to experiment with shadows, using light to create interesting shapes. However, when I hung the objects to create the shadows i liked the effect they gave and thought they created interesting images. I like the idea of reflecting memories and will carry on to explore this throughout the project. I will explore the different surfaces and spaces in which i create the reflections using a range of objects from past memories.

Timeline

I decided to present my timeline around one of the circle windows at Ravensbourne. I placed the images in chronological order, all connected by a piece of string, showing that all memories are linked and are continuous looping round in circles.

William Eggleston

I visited the William Eggleston 'Energy and Process' Exhibition at the Tate Modern during the week. His images mostly taken in South America experiment with colour and 'dye transfer' a process which allows the different colours in the image to be printed separately in their strongest form. I really enjoyed visiting the exhibition, his images are bold and colourful creating eye catching and striking photos. He uses diagonal lines, reflections and bright colours to create effective photos. He is portraying 'life today' rather than documenting a particular point in time and describes his work as 'depicts the banal and everyday.'

Memories

I selected 10 items from my past and present, including photos, objects and items. I then placed them into a 'time capsule' and instead of burying them i decided to burn them. I hung the bag on a tree in my garden, that i have memories of playing on from my childhood and took photos to document the process. I think this task was successful as it was a different and interesting way to bury the time capsule and the images i took, i feel have worked well. If i was to change the way i buried this time capsule i would of buried it on the beach as it was one of the placed i spent most of my time as a child.

Making It Up: Photographic Fictions.

At the VandA i visited the Making it up: Photographic Fictions exhibition. It explores the truthfulness of photography and has been employed throughout its history as a means of telling stories and evoking the imaginary. i enjoyed visiting this exhibition and learnt how there are many different ways of showing narrative through photography.

These images by Andy Weiner show the downfall of an extravagant womanising rake.

This image by Trish Morrissey shows the relationship between siblings as they impersonate relatives.

This image by Xing Danwen, shows a building for a new development. She places herself into the image to create a disturbing narrative.

In these series of images by Duane Michals, two men are passing each other in an alleyway without incident. The figures move in and out of shots, like a film.

Memory Palace

I visited the memory palace exhibition at the v and a museum. The story is set in london in the future after an information infrastructure destroyed the world by a magnetic storm. Nature has taken over and power has been taken by people who enforce life. The narrator of the story accused of having the 'art of memory', he tries to remember what he can of the past.

The more men account the world, the less wild it will be.

'A palace where the lawlords went to muse. Museums were filled with treasures kept for musing on or amusement.'

Mario Wagner shows the world falling apart as a storm wipes out the worlds  information infrastructure.

The Serpentine Gallery

I visited the serpentine gallery and saw Sou Fujimoto latest transparent architecture. I enjoyed the visit and i thought the structure was very cleverly made and unique. It gives a sense of peacefulness, freedom and felt very calming.

Another image of Sou Fujimoto structure, showing perspective through the bars.

The Rock on Top of Another Rock sculpture by Swiss artists Fischli/Weiss, shows the diverse history of rocks within art.
